Healthcare
Comprehensive Dental Services at Let’s Smile, Inc. are dedicated to adhering to the established Minnesota Child and Teen Dental Checkup Standards, as well as the Early and Periodic Screening, Diagnosis, and Treatment (EPSDT) guidelines. Our unwavering commitment lies in advancing the cause of optimal oral health for economically disadvantaged children and teenagers. We employ a diverse array of preventive and restorative measures to ensure their dental well-being.
HealthFinders Collaborative is a community health center serving underserved and uninsured families in Rice and Steele Counties. Offering primary care, medication assistance, education, advocacy, and wellness programs, they collaborate to empower communities in their health journey, recognizing the inherent capacity for health and wellness within patients and communities.

The Center Clinic is a non-profit organization that specializes in reproductive health. They offer services like birth control options, STD/HIV testing and treatment, annual exams, and mental health counseling for low-income and uninsured teens and adults.

South Country Health Alliance is a county-based health plan serving eight Minnesota counties, including Brown, Dodge, Goodhue, Kanabec, Sibley, Steele, Wabasha, and Waseca. The plan collaborates with community services and local healthcare providers to ensure accessible, quality healthcare for enrollees in the Minnesota Health Care Program. Offering seven programs, South Country Health Alliance addresses the diverse healthcare needs of its members.

Hy-Vee dietitians offer individualized nutrition counseling, personalized plans, wellness programs, classes, on-demand store tours, and health screenings. Tracy Bjerke, the dietitian at Owatonna Hy-Vee, will be onsite at PCC to provide food and nutrition tips, resources, and recommendations.

Fernbrook Family Center offers mental health services in southern Minnesota through innovative approaches that focus on developing relationships and changing lives. Clients and their families are supported by Fernbrook in various settings such as their homes, schools, communities, or at the center's offices. Therapy and skill-building programs are provided to enhance emotional well-being, promote healthy relationships, and cultivate resilience.

Mental Health Work Group of CUAPB is part of Community Unity Action Partnership Board, a coalition of partners working to strengthen community well-being across Minnesota. The group advocates for the use of qualified mental health crisis response teams and co-response models to reduce reliance on police-only responses to mental health crises. Through collaboration, education, and resource sharing, they work to improve awareness, reduce stigma, and connect individuals and families to appropriate, compassionate care.

We offer a range of mental health services, encompassing psychiatry, therapy, dual recovery, case management for adults and children, Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) for adults and adolescents, Adult Rehabilitative Mental Health Services (ARMHS), Children's Therapeutic Services and Supports (CTSS), Assertive Community Treatment (ACT), Intensive Residential Treatment Services (IRTS), permanent supportive housing, and various housing services. Additionally, SCHRC provides crisis services, and pharmacy services are also available.

Meetings occur on the second and fourth Tuesdays of each month at 10:00 a.m. at the Steele County History Center. New participants are encouraged to call 507-451-1420 before attending.
Mental Health Connection is a collaborative network of local private mental health practices working together to expand access to counseling and support in the Owatonna area. This partnership includes Empowering Restoration, For the Love of You, Courage Counseling, and Straight River Counseling, offering a range of therapeutic services for individuals, couples, and families. By connecting community members to trusted providers, Mental Health Connection helps promote emotional well-being, healing, and resilience.

The Crisis Resource Center offers 24/7 free and confidential services for individuals affected by domestic abuse, sexual assault, and abused children. Advocates provide support, safety options, and assistance with legal processes, including Order for Protection and Harassment Restraining Orders. The center also provides resources and referrals, emphasizing that anyone can be a victim of abuse, regardless of background.

The Rural AIDS Action Network leads the fight against HIV in rural Minnesota by providing diverse client services, risk reduction, advocacy, and awareness. With over 10,000 individuals served in 21 years, RAAN's skilled team offers a range of programs and services across 80 counties outside the Twin Cities metro area, including: Medical Case Management Food Voucher/Nutrition Program Transportation Assistance Support Groups Outreach and Education Syringe Exchanges HIV & Hepatitis C Testing MNsure Navigator Services Narcan Training & Distribution

Housing
In our Transitional Housing program, we extend a supportive hand to eligible families and individuals grappling with homelessness by offering a comprehensive package that covers the first month's rent, damage deposits, and continuous rental subsidies. Beyond just providing a physical space, we prioritize the holistic well-being of our participants through in-home case management services. Additionally, our commitment to preventing housing crises is evident in our provision of one-time eviction prevention assistance. At our agency, we believe in fostering stability and empowering individuals and families on their journey towards securing and maintaining a safe and stable living environment.

​The Owatonna Housing and Redevelopment Authority (HRA) is committed to providing safe, sanitary, and affordable housing options for low-income individuals and families in Owatonna. Through programs like the Housing Choice Voucher Program, the HRA offers rental assistance to eligible residents. Additionally, the HRA actively engages in revitalizing the city's housing stock and supports private sector initiatives to develop housing that meets community needs. Regular HRA meetings are held on the fourth Monday of each month at 4:00 p.m. in the Charles S. Crandall Center at City Hall.
Two Rivers Habitat for Humanity is a nonprofit housing organization driven by Christian principles, dedicated to improving housing conditions by building, rehabilitating, and preserving homes. They advocate for fair housing policies, offer training, and resources to enhance shelter conditions, believing in providing everyone with a simple, decent place to live in dignity and safety.
The Lighthouse of Southern MN is a nonprofit in Owatonna dedicated to ending homelessness by providing tailored support for men and women. Formed in 2025 through the merger of Hospitality House and Rachel’s Light, it offers housing assistance and resources to foster independence. The Rand Recovery House, officially known as Rand Recovery Homes, LLC, is a supportive housing provider based in Owatonna, Minnesota. They offer stable housing for individuals experiencing housing instability, particularly those exiting institutional settings. Their services are designed to support residents in their recovery journey by providing a safe and structured living environment.
SMRLS, a non-profit founded in 1909, offers free legal services to low-income and elderly individuals in southern Minnesota. With 55 attorneys and 45 staff, the organization prioritizes client empowerment and self-reliance, assisting about 10,000 eligible individuals each year.
Reitan Law Office, PLLC, with over 40 years of experience, advocates for those with injuries and disabilities. Specializing in Social Security Disability and Supplemental Security Income ("SSI") benefits, we assist with applications, appeals, and representation at hearings. Hometown Credit Union is a member-owned financial institution dedicated to helping individuals and families achieve financial well-being. They offer a range of services including savings and checking accounts, loans, financial education, and personalized support to help members reach their goals. With a focus on community and service, Hometown Credit Union works to build strong financial foundations for those they serve.
First Alliance Credit Union is a member-owned financial institution offering checking and savings accounts, loans, mortgages, and digital banking tools. They are committed to helping individuals and families build financial stability through accessible services and financial wellness resources.
Cedar Valley Services Inc. provides employment and life enrichment services for individuals with disabilities and other barriers to independence. Through job training, supported employment, day services, and community-based programs, they help individuals build skills, gain confidence, and participate fully in their communities. By partnering with local businesses and organizations, Cedar Valley Services creates meaningful opportunities for independence and inclusion.
Workforce Development Inc. serves Southeast Minnesota by helping individuals build skills, explore career pathways, and connect to meaningful employment opportunities. Through job training, career counseling, youth programs, and support services, they assist job seekers in overcoming barriers and achieving long-term success. By partnering with local employers and community organizations, Workforce Development, Inc. strengthens the regional workforce and supports economic growth.

MRCI's Steele County Employment Services, located at 630 Florence Avenue in Owatonna, Minnesota, offers comprehensive employment assistance to individuals and families participating in programs such as the Minnesota Family Investment Program (MFIP), Diversionary Work Program (DWP), and Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP). Their services encompass career counseling, job search and retention support, skills training, and referrals to community resources. Additionally, they provide support services like interview clothing, transportation, and work necessities, along with guidance for both short and long-term training opportunities. MRCI is the primary employment service provider for Steele County, dedicated to empowering individuals to achieve their employment goals.
Help Me Grow offers specialized instruction for children aged 0-5 with developmental delays. Our programs provide resources and support for children, from birth to kindergarten, promoting independent functioning in various settings. The Home Visit Program (ages 0-3) supports families, while the School-Based Program (ages 3-5) focuses on kindergarten readiness.

Whether it's access to medical care, mental health services, educational tools, or other essential supports, the fund helps ensure that every child has the opportunity to thrive.
Semcac, as a Community Action Agency, operates across seven Southeast Minnesota counties, including Steele County. Our programs cater to all age groups, offering essential services such as Head Start, Meals on Wheels, Senior Dining, Rental Assistance, Homeless Prevention, Energy Assistance, Weatherization, Car Repair, and Transportation directly to the Steele County community.

Southeastern Minnesota Area Agency on Aging (SEMAAA) supports older adults and caregivers across 11 counties by providing resources for aging well. Services include the Senior LinkAge Line® for healthcare and housing assistance, health promotion programs, and caregiver support. Bethel Church of Owatonna lives out its mission by caring for the community and meeting both practical and spiritual needs. Through outreach, support, and service, they strive to love their neighbors and serve the whole person. Their weekly Community Supper is held every Wednesday from 5–6 PM, offering a free meal and fellowship through dine-in, drive-up, and DoorDash options to ensure everyone feels welcomed and supported.
Trinity Lutheran Church is a faith-based organization actively serving the Owatonna community through outreach, generosity, and connection. They host a weekly Community Meal every Wednesday from 4:45–6:15 PM, offering a welcoming space for food and fellowship. Their quilting group creates and donates handmade quilts to individuals and nonprofits in need, and they support community events like Project Community Connect by providing free shuttle transportation. Through these efforts and more, Trinity Lutheran Church is dedicated to caring for neighbors and strengthening the community.

In partnership with Steele County Employment Services, their exclusive employment services provider, MNPrairie, helps individuals receiving public assistance develop job skills, secure employment, and move toward long-term self-sufficiency. Together, they are committed to strengthening communities and empowering individuals to lead healthy, independent, and engaged lives.
Community Pathways is a nonprofit supporting individuals and families through The Marketplace food shelf, Unique Finds thrift store, and Community Navigation services. It also offers programs like CodeRED (menstrual health supplies) and Career Wear (employment clothing), fostering dignity and self-sufficiency.
Family Service Rochester (FARR) is a nonprofit organization established in 1965 with a focus on improving the lives of individuals and families in the community. With over 30 programs spanning 12 counties, their team of 150 staff members and 600 volunteers offer various services to promote mental health, child welfare, family stability, and senior independence.
